I do not know but explore these three different versions.

 --netmask=255.255.254.0 --ip=ip_address --gateway=192.168.62.40
 --netmask=255.255.254.0 --ip=$ip_address --gateway=192.168.62.40
 --netmask=255.255.254.0 --ip=${ip_address} --gateway=192.168.62.40

It is not clear to me where you define "ip_address" and where
you intend to assign it.
