Interestingly, SuSE 7.3 offers ext3, and it is supplied with 2.4.10 
(http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/products/suse_linux/i386/new_features.html) -- any 
idea how this one will work?

Perhpaps SuSE have patched it somehow, or is it still likely to be a 
combination to avoid?
