fopen extended attributes

Are ext3 file system extended attributes mapped anywhere to file system
paths? e.g. /sys/fs/ext3/<path>/<attr-name>? I want to edit a file's
extended attribute using standard system calls, fopen, fread, fwrite,
etc. Is it possible?
