Display Setttings for an IBM T21

Subject: Display Setttings for an IBM T21

can anyone tell me how to configure an IBM T21 so the
display is 1024x768 vs. defaulting to 800x600.
I used the config tool to edit and at boot-up it is
fine, although once in the OS it defaults back to
800x600.
Your advise would be helpfull.
