Authconfig on Ubuntu

Hi,
I'd like to port authconfig to Ubuntu. 2 questions:

1. Does someone know the status of such a port? Is there already wotkbeing done on that area?

2. Will Redhat/Fedora integrate the eventual modifications in CVS?
