Oh, yes. speex is handy. Some conferences are recording talks in
speex format these days.

This has come up before. An RFE of "include valgrind" at
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=78403
was closed with WONTFIX. (For those not inclined to click
on the URL, one word: "patents")
A list of "we'd love to, but patents prevent.." software
somewhere might not go amiss. I don't see anything like
that on a cursory (very cursory) skim of RH and Fedora
pages. I have the vague idea that there are quite a few
packages this affects.
