UNIX is about choice. Obsolete product have less and less users and they get 
dropped.
Developing software is about evolution, not revolution. And at any time of 
it.. you have products that are at the peak of their life cycle, at the 
beginning and at the end. So it is very natural to have a lot of different 
applications :).
