The drawback in taking back or resetting statuses is that it is extra
work (not much) and causes useless mail traffic (this is a worse problem
IMO).  It'd be better if that could be avoided and the query would take
care of it instead.

Yep.  But let's start experimenting with this stuff to get some hands-on
experience how it feels.
