My mistake, there wasn't an i586 one when I had the problem
(kernel-2.6.0-1.23, Jan 3rd) and my EPIA-M 633-fanless required one.
I see there's a package now, but I doubt he's using it. The problem sounds
very familiar to me.
I was net-booting onto the kernel above and it was rebooting at or around
loading initrd. i.e. early. i386 and i586 worked (once built)..
