Why don't you let yum download a list with mirrors and choose the closest or fastest mirror :)

Wouldn't it be interresting to let yum download a mirror list from the
fedora site and then connect to a nearby mirror.

It can detect location by hostname or by timezone. If it can't find a
mirror it uses fedora's official site.

This would release the fedora server a lot.
