Newer kudzu/hwdata should be doing ALSA by default I believe and I
*think* it should convert. If I'm wrong, Bill will correct me (although
it's going to need to ;-)

Which tools? Most of the alsa tools I remember were command-line or
text mode and thus should most definitely not be in the menus. For
things beyond that, you really want integration into the standard, eg,
volume control and media players (which should be there afaik)
