When using up2date to retrieve the packages listed below, the following 
problems occurred:

Also to note: I have functionality back to the start-here: ICON and the 
*.desktop ICONS open up and show preferences, applications (empty but 
opens) I like the new computer ICON which shows mounts and network mounts.

When I nodep installed the above packages, gdm would stay at an 
hourglass. I had to change to runlevel 3 or just ctl-alt-backspace and 
gdm did not re spawn.
