There was a thread in May about VPN solutions for Fedora Core:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00715.html

In particular, the following cover PPTP (which uses the Microsoft MPPE
standard):
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00770.html
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00783.html
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00779.html

The basics are that it taints your kernel, but I can't find anything that
looks GPL incompatible. I haven't followed up why it isn't in the mainstream
kernel. It's been in CVS for a fair while, but looking at the ppp-2.4.2
tarball, it looks like it was pulled from the distribution or something. If
I goto CLUG on Thursday night and Paul Mackerras is there, I'll ask him what
the story is.
