syslogd not working after 6/12/04 update

All I get in the /var/log/messages is:

Jun 13 11:24:21 localhost syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
Jun 13 11:24:21 localhost
Jun 13 11:24:21 localhost last message repeated 233 times
Jun 13 11:24:23 localhost
Jun 13 11:24:23 localhost last message repeated 7 times


Something tells me this is wrong.
