rpm -ivh kernel-<version>.src.rpm
cd <rpm home>/SPECS
rpmbuild -bp --target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec
cd ../BUILD/kernel-<version>/linux-<version>
The configs are in the (who'd have guessed it) configs directory of the
expanded source tree.
