I don't think that's what "alternatives" means, in the context of
"Fedora Alternatives". The site says: "'Fedora Alternatives' refers to
the set of packages which replace packages in the Fedora Core."

*Replacing* packages in Fedora Core would be something like having new
OpenSSH packages based on CVS snapshots rather than the latest release,
or GNOME 2.10 packages backported to FC3, or XFree86 forward-ported to
FC3/4, or stuff like that. At least, that's my interpretation.

It seems like you're asking for stuff like KDE and exim to be moved
out of Core (and that would mean moving them into Extras). Personally,
I'd like to see all of the (open-source) RHEL packages stay in Core;
splitting them across Core and Extras seems like an effective way
of making my life more difficult, unless anaconda gains support for
installing just the subset of Extras packages that are also present in
RHEL. But, that's just my opinion, and I wouldn't be surprised if this
has been previously beaten to death on the list anyway.
