Perhaps that because the comparison is comparing
different things. Ie, the faster of the two
isn't running cups, firewire, alsa, usb etc
(In fact, none of the stuff forked from udev)

Without that scanning, aiui, we'll fail to pick
up for eg, USB keys left inserted at boot,
requiring an unplug-replug action before they
get seen.
