I think it should work OOTB... Right now, I have had quite some
successes with NetworkManager + WPA + ipwXXXX.

I have another working installation at home with madwifi, using
straight s-c-n and manual editing of
/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicat.conf; the provided man pages was
enough to get it mostly[1] working.
