Or you can do this:
"echo -n 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/acpi_video_flags"

which has the same effect but you do not need to change your grub.conf or 
reboot.
If you want this permanently you can set, which enables this after every 
reboot:

"kernel.acpi_video_flags = 1" in /etc/sysctl.conf
