Yeah looks like cleaner, but it would probably not work in my case
since I have an hardcoded depmod command in Makefile:

install:
        $(KMAKE) modules_install
        [ -e /sbin/depmod ] && /sbin/depmod


So my option now seems to be:
1. patch Makefile
2. remove (or %exclude) generated files
