why does yum want xulrunner?

Language issue.  "yum" itself doesn't "want" (as in require)
xulrunner, which is what Rahul was saying.  However due to improper
obsoletes a yum update action will see xulrunner as obsoleting
installed software and thus add it to the transaction, which is what
you (and others) are saying.  Both are right.
