The problem is that there are many variants of the T61, with different
pieces of HW (e.g. various graphics cards etc.).

I've installed F7 and F8 successfully on a T61, except for some
post-install configuration issues (mainly on F7).

Did you look at the other consoles, to see if there are messages
that may indicate the problem?
