Have you tried to recreate the autotools and libtool files manually
yet instead of using autoreconf?

  

Thank you for the suggestion! I was able to have a clean make call by using these commands instead of autoreconf. I wonder what is the problem though!

aclocal -I m4
automake
autoconf
autoheader
touch config.h.in
