As part of the Sha-256 feature[1], we need to change the SHA1SUM file that has accompanied ISOs that Fedora produces for years. This isn't the first time it has changed, it used to be MD5SUMS. This likely won't be the last time it changes, however I think it would be prudent of us to pick something this time that won't require a file name change, just a format change. A suggestion has been made already [2], but since this effects install iso creation (pungi), live media creation (livecd-creator, but manual creation of checksums), docs, release notes, announcements, etc.. I'd like to get a few opinions on the matter. Personally I'd prefer to keep any boilerplate out of the file itself, leaving it just for the checksums, and instead have the directions on how to use that included in docs/announcements/wiki/etc. My questions are, does anybody actually care how we change it, so long as its documented properly? If you do care, I would appreciate your opinions.
