On $SUBJECT don't forget virtualization and .iso files. I use the ISO
format as a (somewhat inconvenient) way to boot virtual machines, and
probably less than 1 in 10 of those ISOs that I download get burned
onto any physical object.

live CD or over the network (PXE) and turn machines into Xen guests.
