Wow. That *is* surprising.
But is this the type of upgrade that makes sense in general?
No.
Even if Automake had a better track record of compatibility, upgrading a
build tool to something that isn't simply a bugfix release does not make
sense *in general* for released versions of Fedora. Special
circumstances that might prompt such a move can always be discussed, of
course. But this sort of thing incurs way too much risk.
