I think we can use modules with someling like:

alias mpirun mpirun.{name}
alias mpicc  mpicc.{name}
prepend-path MANPATH $SOMEPACKAGE_HOME/man
prepend-path LD_LIBRARY_PATH $SOMEPACKAGE_HOME/lib
...etc...

to coexist with alternatives/FHS compliance for binaries.
