Problem in comment #27 exists for the referenced lam version also:

  ls -l /usr/share/lam/bin

returns a directory full of broken links such as:

  lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 47 Feb 17 22:30 mpicc ->
    ../(/var/tmp/lam-7.1.1-root//usr/bin)/lam-mpicc

but the lam* binaries in /usr/bin work nicely such as:

  /usr/bin/lam-mpicc -o mpi_hi mpi_hi.c
  /usr/bin/lamboot
  /usr/bin/lam-mpirun -np 2 ./mpi_hi
    XXX: hello world
    XXX: hello world
