You need to provide complete font name to fc-match to get any results.
In this case it would be like:
$ fc-match Liberation\ Sans
LiberationSans-Regular.ttf: "Liberation Sans" "Regular"
Still the question is, why the exact name, can't we use wild
characters or something like that?
