Hi all,
I'm running Redhat 9 legacy with all up2date.
I just installed kernel-2.4.20-37.9.legacy.src.rpm.
I wondered why this was not called kernel-source-2.4.20-37.9.legacy.rpm
like it's predecessors, but I installed it anyway.
Now rpm does not know it was installed.
After installing it I checked for its files. Just to show you one,
"linux-usb-sparse.patch", here's what happens when I tried to check it out:
First, rpm shows that the file is in the package.
[root linux RPMS]# rpm -qpl kernel-2.4.20-37.9.legacy.src.rpm | grep
linux-usb-sparse.patch
warning: kernel-2.4.20-37.9.legacy.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key
ID 731002fa
linux-usb-sparse.patch
Then I change to the directory where the file was installed:
[root linux RPMS]# cd -
/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
Now I ask rpm to tell me which package owns the file. It says none.
[root linux SOURCES]# rpm -qf linux-usb-sparse.patch
file linux-usb-sparse.patch is not owned by any package
Just for double check, I use the entire file path and get the same result.
[root linux SOURCES]# rpm -qf
/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/linux-usb-sparse.patch
file /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/linux-usb-sparse.patch is not owned by any
package
[root linux SOURCES]#
Was the package incorrectly named? Is that what is causing the problem?
Why doesn't rpm know what package the file belongs to?
Can anyone shed any light on this?
rpm also reports that the package is not installed by any variation on its
name.
How can I un-install the package if rpm does not know it was installed?
I know that Redhat 9 is "old", but I didn't expect rpm to start developing
Alzheimers. :-)
