inkscape compile problems

Greetings;

I cannot get inkscape to compile on an FC2 box, and the staticly 
linked versions are apparently expecting a newer glib than the 
glib-1.2.10-12.1.1 installed on this FC2 system.

Is it possible to update glib without borking everything, & if so, how 
far forward can I move?
