dependeny issues.... upgrading apps

hi...

i'm looking to install/upgrade mysql (FC2->FC3) on a FC2 system. (i need the
additional functionality and thought i'd try to use the rpms that were
created for FC3.)

my question concerns the dependency issues that i get when i try to install
thngs like the kerebos libs. if i write over these libs with an updated
version, will other apps complain??

how can i go about doing an upgrade of an app, without having to upgrade the
entire OS??
