Java and JavaScript are a different thing. To enable JavaScript
in Mozilla, go to

  Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Scripts & Plugins

Unfortunately, you didn't tell which web pages you did try it with.
There are several web pages which strictly require a Microsoft
Internet Explorer specific JavaScript implementation.
