Samba vs. NFS

Note that, in order to do this, you have to change smb.conf, something regular
user's shouldn't be able to do. So the admin can configure shared areas for
particular groups, but the user himself would not be able to share his files
unless they give world access.

Besides that, the permission bits would have to be set from the server itself
(using ssh, rlogin or telnet) or using NFS, not from the smbfs mounted share,
so regular users won't be able to change permissions.
