That document is ancient. I think fedora enables scsi-emulation
for all cd-rom's by default, and even if doesn't, the version
of cdrecord in Core supports ATAPI as well. Try a cdrecord -scanbus,
and if you don't see your drive there try cdrecord dev=ATAPI -scanbus.
If you can see it, then it works. You'll also probably want a
graphical frontend to mkisofs/cdrecord, I recommend you try out k3b.
It's not in Core but you should be able to find a 3rd party rpm out
there.
