The actual dependency is on libxpcom.so, which doesn't have to be
provided by mozilla; firefox also provides this library:
$ rpm -q --whatprovides libxpcom.so
mozilla-1.4.1-18
firefox-0.8-0.fdr.9.1
So there still is a choice.
Now the version available from Openoffice.org comes with the libxpcom.so
library included. In that case there is no dependency, but also no way
to upgrade this library when a new version ofmozilla/firefox is released,
without having to upgrade all op OOo.
Maybe libxpcom.so could be made into a separate package (just as
mozilla-nss and mozilla-nspr) to allow installations without mozilla or
firefox but with OOo.
But I'm not an expert on mozilla, OOo or rpm packaging, so probably the
real situation is more complex than this.
