well, yum and apt both resolve dependencies for you, but yum doesn't
really have a 'download-only' option, as far as i've seen (i could be
wrong) which is something that apt has.  so, for example, i have a cron
job that runs the following:

apt-get -qq update && apt-get -dqqy upgrade

this updates my package list, and then only downloads the updated
programs.  this way, when i run synaptic, i don't have to wait for things
to download.

i think dag relies on fedora's repository for dependencies.
