No need to apologise. I have tracked it down to an issue with the laptop
itself. Apparently ACPI functions ok but button events are not caught.
No one seems to have any answers, some people have no problems some do.
I'm going to try rebuilding my DSDT files using instructions from
acpi.sourceforge.net. Maybe that'll get me somewhere
