Did you make sure that you booted with the SMP kernel?  What kernel are
you using?  You may want to boot in rescue mode and download/install the
latest kernel and see if that works any better.

No I no opportunity to tell it to install the SMP kernel, nor does it
show in grub menu.

Ok given the following, how would I do that?
- I have the FC/1 install cds
- I have the 440GX boot cd
- rescue disk from 7.2 and 8

Would that work?
