Keeping OO in memory

I use openoffice quite often now on linux (Fedora Core 2). But each time
it takes a while to start. If I just close a document and not the main
window then it stays in memory and my next document loads very fast. But
an empty window remains and shows up in my task bar and adds to the
clutter. Isn't there any way to keep openoffice in memory without having
the empty window open? Something like in a taskbar applet form?
