Trouble installing ATI drivers!

My biggest question is will the ATI drivers work as expected. I
dumped my new 9600 (in January) as the drivers would not support
acceleration then. The drivers may not support the 8500LE for 3-D
acceleration. It took me almost a month to find a text file on the
ATI site that stated that their driver did not support 3d on my card. :(
