XFCE 4

I would like to play with XFCE 4.  I installed the rpms on the CD's and
they didn't work very well.  xffm lacked icons, and when I logged in,
things were really weird looking.  So, I updated things with the rpms on
the newrpms site.  Sigh, no change.  I'm still missing icons and I get
weird errors when I log into xfce.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do about it?
