Replacing the hard drive will do nothing to solve the problem of not having enough RAM.  You need to find out how much RAM it has and see if it is viable to upgrade it.  If you provide more detail the list might be able to help you.  What kind of laptop is it?  What model?  How much RAM does it have now?  Do you know what kind of RAM it takes?
