Symetric multi processor

if you do cat /proc/cpuinfo and you see two processors then your kernel is 
supporting and using two processors... if you see 4 you have ht-enabled 
xeons.

I don't know what you mean my asmp, there's only one smp model in the 
normal kernel, a-semetric multiprocessing is generally something that only 
comes up in the mainframe style environments in my experience.

fedora core comes with both smp and uniprocessor kernels under normal 
circumstances.

In terms of a nice utility to monitor memory network disk cpu state all at 
once I like gkrellm.
