resolv.conf slows down X

When you are not attached to the network the system searches
mydomain.com for the named host and must wait for the DNS timeout before
continuing. 

Maybe removing the search line from resolv.conf will help


Also, do you have this in /etc/hosts??

127.0.0.1               localhost.localdomain localhost
-----------------------

If that line is not there then X must have its connections resolved by
DNS instead of the hosts file.
