setting display resolution higher than 800*600 not possible with ELSA Gloria Synergy

I see this all the time when the monitor is not properly detected and
configured.  Since my monitor is older and is not auto configured, I
simply set it as a generic CRT with the appropriate resolution and then
all the appropriate resolutions are available.
