Booting to run level 3 but still video fails?

Stranger and stranger.
Now, it come up some times and others it is blank. But it turns out that all
I have to do when it is blank is press recall on the monitor's front panel
and it show the picture fine!

I was going to say something along the lines of "it's at times like this
that I long for windows" but I won't!
