NFS syntax error in /etc/fstab?

For some reason, if I type
host:/path /mount/point nfs defaults 1,1
into /etc/fstab, mount dies with a syntax error. The fstab(5)
manual page says this is the correct syntax; it sure used to
be, anyway. It works if I just type
mount host:/path /mount/point
on the command line. What's going on here?
