The better way if using lookit or glokkit, that construct a good iptable 
firewall FOR YOUR SERVERS!!!!! see the documentation or redhat 9, it's 
and easy setup

If you want to be more specialize about iptables, read tutorial and 
manuals, is not all there but you can do a lot with that information

Then, learne about the DoS attacks and with your knowledge about 
iptables you can understand how the atacks works, how can i construct 
and iptable and setup a good firewall

Another way can very very difficult without knowledge of the iptables
