can someone explain why *this* page does NOT load properly?

A good first pass for prospective web pages is to see how well they do 
through the W3C HTML Validator:

http://validator.w3.org/

If it can pass through that with only general whining (you'll be 
appalled to see how badly most web creation software does), it should 
display well nearly anywhere.
